Springtime is for Prom!
Along with the spring time comes flowers, warmer weather, a few rain showers here and there, and maybe most importantly PROM!!
Recently I had the opportunity to work the Down Syndrome Prom held at the Overland Park Convention Center. This prom is put on every year by the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City and is the result of hundreds of volunteers, sponsors and partners.
Compton Event was involved with the planning, and I was able to sit in on the meetings. I was amazed at just how much thought goes behind every single detail. This year the theme was Viva Las Vegas. Planning involved brainstorming, visiting prop warehouses, site visits, and much more.
Our company provided Balloon decorations, red-carpet video interviews, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley singer/impersonators, showgirls, and a green screen photo booth which helped create a physical memory the attendees could take with them.
My role was to work the red-carpet interviews, and let me tell you these people came dressed to impressed! From their names to what they were looking forward to most about the event, they were gushing with excitement. As soon as the music began the dance floor was packed. One of the highlights was the impersonators and showgirls performing during a break in the dancing. Singing along, swaying with hands in the air, and high-fiving kept the attendees glued to the performances.
If you ever have a chance to work an event like this, don’t hesitate! The night was truly something special and memorable.
